The Vase marks a significant moment in Marcin Glod’s artistic practice: his first work created specifically for the Chinese market and the beginning of his engagement with a new cultural environment. The work is executed on the pages of a vintage Chinese book, transforming an historical object and its written language into the foundation of a contemporary Pop Art composition.

At the centre stands a traditional blue-and-white porcelain vase decorated with dragons. In Chinese art, the dragon carries multiple layers of meaning and has historically been associated with strength, protection, authority and imperial power. Glod reinterprets this established visual language by placing his own signature character, the Pink Panther, emerging from the vessel.

The Chinese characters in the background translate as “Hello”, while the inscription on the vase introduces the artist directly: “My name is Glod.” This simple introduction becomes a conceptual gesture — an artistic arrival, announcing Glod’s presence within a new cultural and creative landscape.

By combining a historical Chinese book, traditional porcelain imagery and a globally recognisable Pop Art character, Glod creates a dialogue between cultural heritage and contemporary visual culture. Hello China therefore functions not only as a portrait of China through the artist’s perspective, but as a symbolic first introduction to a new world, market and artistic context.
